What do product manager recruiters do?
Product manager recruiters fill the roles that decide what a technology company builds, including product owners, product managers and UX designers. They screen for product judgment rather than a title, by testing how a candidate chose what to build, worked with engineering to ship it, and measured whether it worked for users.
Product owner, product manager or UX designer?
The three roles overlap more every year. This is how we tell them apart when we scope a search.
| Product owner | Product manager | UX designer | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Owns | The backlog and its priorities, inside the development team. | The problem: which customers, what to build, and whether it worked. | The user: research, flows and design, increasingly prototyped with AI. |
| Works most with | Engineers, every sprint. | Customers, leadership, engineering and design. | Users, product and engineering. |
| Hire this role when | Engineers need clear, prioritized requirements. | You need someone accountable for the roadmap and the outcome. | You need someone who owns the user and the design. |
| 2026 pay, TekRecruiter data | $155K avg base, South Florida (14 placements) | Senior: ~$150K South Florida, ~$180K New York | Scoped per search |

Product hiring questions, answered.
What product roles does TekRecruiter recruit?
Product owners, product managers and UX designers. Product leaders, such as Heads and VPs of Product, go through our executive search practice; in 2026 we filled a Head of Product at a manufacturing and technology company.
What do product managers earn in 2026?
In TekRecruiter's 2026 placements, entry and junior product roles started around $100,000 in South Florida and $120,000 in New York, and senior product roles paid about $150,000 and $180,000. Product owners in South Florida averaged $155,000 across 14 placements. See the 2026 Tech Salary & Rate Guide.
Are product management and UX design merging?
Increasingly, yes. AI now covers much of UX research and most UI prototyping, so more product managers do that work directly, and the strongest UX designers can think like product managers. Many companies now get both skill sets in one hire.
How do you screen product people?
We have them walk through a product they owned, from the customer conversation to the requirements, the release and the measured result. Our founder started as a founding engineer, so we also check whether engineering trusted them.
Should we hire a product manager or a UX designer first?
Hire a product owner or manager if you need someone accountable for the roadmap and the outcome. Hire a UX designer if the gap is understanding the user and the design. See product owners and managers and UX design.
What is the HEART standard?
HEART is the standard we screen every candidate against, beyond skills: high agency, execution, accountability, resourcefulness and transparency. It describes people who take ownership, turn ideas into results and move the business forward. See the standard.
