Health tech engineers who know what patient data demands.
TekRecruiter recruits technology and engineering talent for health tech companies: software, data, hardware and platform engineers, and the leaders who run those teams. We screen for how candidates encrypted, logged and scoped access to PHI and handled EHR and claims integrations, so you hire engineers who ship clinical products without creating a compliance problem. Health Tech clients
Our largest sector, from the lab bench to the C-suite.
Health tech companies hire across the whole stack: the product engineers, the data team, the hardware behind the devices, the business systems that run the company, and the leaders who hold it together. In 2026 we recruited for each of those, much of it in South Florida.
Share of our 2026 placements
Health tech is the largest sector in our placement mix, ahead of technology and AI services (19%).
Leadership placements in 2026
Head of Engineering at a Series B health tech company; Director of Data Science in Fort Lauderdale; Head of Software Engineering in Boca Raton.
HubSpot and NetSuite bill rates

What health tech companies hire us for.
Product and platform engineers
Full-stack, back-end and cloud engineers building patient, provider and clinical products that handle protected health information.
Data science and data engineering
Data scientists and data engineers working with clinical, claims and device data, where accuracy and access control both matter.
Hardware and business systems
Hardware engineers for connected medical devices, plus HubSpot and NetSuite specialists who run the commercial and finance side.
Engineering and data leadership
Heads of Engineering, Heads of Software Engineering and Directors of Data Science for growth-stage health tech companies.
Why health tech searches go wrong.
Health tech hires fail on the parts of the job a résumé doesn’t show: the data, the rules and the integrations. We hear the same stories.
- 01
Great engineer, wrong domain.
A strong consumer-app engineer who has never had to think about who can see a patient record.
- 02
HIPAA on the résumé, not in the code.
The acronym is listed; the access controls and audit logging were someone else’s job.
- 03
Integrations underestimated.
HL7, FHIR and claims feeds that run months past the roadmap, with no one on the team who has done one before.
- 04
A leader from the wrong stage.
A Head of Engineering from a large health system who has never built a team right after a Series B.

Health tech engineering is engineering with a compliance edge.
A good engineer from a consumer app can still be the wrong hire for health tech. We’re technical people, and we walk each candidate through a product they built: where patient data lived, who could see it, and what they did when a requirement collided with a privacy rule. Every engineer we present also meets HEART, our standard beyond skills.
- Protected health information: how they stored, encrypted, logged and limited access to PHI, in their own words.
- HIPAA in practice: the controls they actually built or worked inside, not the acronym on the résumé.
- Integrations: experience with EHR, claims, lab or device data, and the messy formats that come with them.
- Product view: whether they understand how clinicians, patients or payers use what they build.
| A generalist tech recruiting firm | TekRecruiter |
|---|---|
| Treats "HIPAA" as a keyword | Asks how the candidate handled PHI in a real system |
| Screens on languages and frameworks | Screens on the product, the data and the controls around it |
| Sends consumer-app engineers unfiltered | Checks for regulated-data judgment before you interview |
| Assumes integrations can be learned on the job | Checks for HL7, FHIR, claims or device-data work up front |
| Recruits engineers or leaders, not both | Placed three health tech engineering and data leaders in 2026 |
The HEART standard
What we look for beyond skills and experience, in every candidate we present.
- High agencyPeople who see what needs to be done and act without waiting to be told.
- ExecutionPeople who turn ideas into results.
- AccountabilityPeople who own the outcome, not just their piece of the work.
- ResourcefulnessPeople who figure things out when the answer isn’t obvious.
- TransparencyPeople who communicate clearly, honestly, and early.
Map the data and the rules, then the people.
Scope the product and its data
What the product does, which health data it touches, the integrations it depends on, and where the hire sits: on site, hybrid or remote.
Screen on regulated work
Technical conversations about systems the candidate shipped, including how they protected patient data. You meet a short list of people who have done this kind of work before.
Hire the way that fits
Direct hire with a 90-day guarantee, contract for a project or a system rollout, or contract-to-hire to see the work first.
What clients say.
Who we’re a fit for in health tech.
- Venture-backed health tech companies scaling engineering after a raise.
- Teams building products that touch patient data, where a careless hire is a compliance risk.
- South Florida health tech companies that want local, on-site or hybrid engineers.
- Clinical staffing. We recruit technologists, not nurses, physicians or clinical support staff.
- Regulatory affairs or compliance officers as standalone hires; we place the engineers who build to those rules.
- Offshore teams without US-hour overlap. Our nearshore engineers work your hours.
Health tech hiring questions, answered.
Do you recruit for health tech companies?
Yes. Health tech is TekRecruiter’s largest sector: 30% of our 2026 placements. We recruit software, data, hardware and platform engineers, business-systems specialists, and engineering and data leaders for health tech companies, many of them in South Florida.
Which health tech companies have you hired for?
eMed is one example. Its former CTO hired more than six senior software engineers through TekRecruiter across multiple companies, and its former CISO filled a senior IAM engineer role with SOC 2 expertise within a week of speaking with us, after it had been open for more than three months. We have also placed engineers at Qualio, Carewell and other health and life sciences companies.
Can you find engineers with HIPAA experience?
Yes, and we check it rather than take it from the résumé. In the technical screen we ask candidates how they stored, encrypted and restricted access to protected health information in a system they built, and what they did when a feature request conflicted with a privacy rule. Candidates who can only name the acronym do not get submitted.
Do you place engineering leaders in health tech?
Yes. In 2026 we placed a Head of Engineering at a Series B health tech company, a Director of Data Science at a health tech company in Fort Lauderdale, and a Head of Software Engineering at a health tech company in Boca Raton. Leadership searches run through our executive search practice, retained or contingent; see VP of Engineering and Head of Data & AI.
What does a data scientist cost in South Florida?
In TekRecruiter’s 2026 placements, data scientists working in Python and machine learning in South Florida averaged a $155,000 base salary. See data engineering recruiting and the 2026 Tech Salary & Rate Guide for more roles and markets.
Do you recruit HubSpot or NetSuite specialists for health tech companies?
Do you hire hardware engineers for medical devices?
Yes. We recruited hardware engineers for a health tech company in Miami in 2026. Our hardware and robotics practice also covers entry-level and PhD candidates for device and robotics companies.
Do you staff clinical roles?
No. TekRecruiter recruits technologists: engineers, data scientists, product people and technical leaders. We do not place nurses, physicians or clinical support staff.
What is the HEART standard?
HEART is the standard we screen every candidate against, beyond skills: high agency, execution, accountability, resourcefulness and transparency. It describes people who take ownership, turn ideas into results and move the business forward. See the standard.
